For this place to be arguably a tourist trap as it's across from the bean I was very surprised. My cocktail was well balanced & not a single food item was boring & some were mind boggling delicious. I'm among the people that contend that Monteverde is the best Italian in the city however there are dishes here that honestly can compete such as the lobster ravioli & the pistachio pasta dish. For your money & the area you could do a whole hell of a lot worse
LOVE this place. It's a great date spot where the staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is great and they accommodate for small requests. I would like to point out that I have been here on multiple occasions and the service is consistent. I would recommend
I wish I would've/could've taken a pic of our pastas - lighting is ambient (candle lit...) Pappardelle pasta and rigatoni were delish. Desserts were spot on. My pasta was the Pappardelle (not spelling it correctly ), it was light and flavorful - loved the amount of mushrooms in was Our dishes came out very quickly! Service was good - not overbearing, checked in on us when necessary, water service was consistent. Our desserts were: Gelato (pistachio & chocolate) Strawberry semifreddo 10/10 on both The Strawberry semifreddo had citrus glass and citrus soaked strawberries with strawberry-sorbet-esque as the main.
There's not a lot I love about Chicago other than the food scene and tonight did not disappoint!! 7p reservations and we arrived a little early our table was immediately available but we wanted to sit outside. The hosts were so kind. Told us it would be 10 minutes but I don't think it was even that. We ended up at a lovely table on the patio with a world-class server. Seriously he was informative, relational, not too chatty and not too absent. Literally perfect timing. We started with the Burrata appetizer which was so good. It had pesto and heirloom tomatoes. It was tasty and completely devoured. I'm only showing 1/2 a pic because my date ate 1:4 before I could even snap a pic!! He got the chicken piccata and I got the rigatoni with bolognese. We swapped plates halfway through. The pasta was delicious and very filling. The chicken was so yummy. It kind of had a bit of a smokey taste. The dare said this was the best meal he has had in a long time.
Popped in on a Saturday night. Since I was dining solo, I sat at the bar. Great vibe, and a cool bar. On this occasion I ordered a gin martini, up, with blue cheese stuffed olives. I don't order them a lot, and when I do they tend to disappoint as they end up watered down. The bartender at Acanto makes a great martini! He also suggested the Bigoli. Took his advice, and it was great! The portions were on the smaller size which I was fine with, however if you were really hungry, you would need more
I've passed this restaurant 100 times and finally decided to give it a try. This restaurant is pricey for Italian food, but some items were quite good. I enjoyed the prosciutto bruschetta appetizer very much. It had a very full topping of shaved prosciutto over whipped mozzarella, served on crusty toast with perfect seasoning. Very good. ($18). I was surprised at the pricing for pasta, some of which didn't even have any protein, but my husband got the bucatini with meatball ($28) and hoped for the best. He said it was very ordinary and not worth the price. I got the fish special, Branzini i in a savory sauce with olives and tomatoes. It was excellent, cooked to perfection $30). My husband had a martinii he declared excellent, and I had no drink. With tip, our bill was $139. (Summer, 2024).
Great food, service, and ambiance. This restaurant is definitely more on the pricey side but the food is delicious. Great outdoor seating and the place seems busy during workday lunch hours. The mushroom pappardelle was so good!!
My husband and I went to dinner at Acanto last night with another couple before the symphony. I've been to Encanto a couple times before and absolutely loved it. The restaurant is on the smaller side, but has an outdoor patio. The noise level is very high, and the tables are very close together where customers are bumping into each other , at least that's how it was on this visit where we were seated. Our server was Hannah and she was a delight, friendly, engaging and provided very good service. Our friends brought a bottle of wine to enjoy. The corkage fee is $35, FYI. This is a wine bar and they do have a good selection, but our friends brought a bottle of Davis which you can only get if you're a member. The four of us shared the prosciutto bruschetta and the mushroom pizza for starters with five minutes to spare off the happy hour menu. My husband and I have had the prosciutto bruschetta before with truffle ricotta cheese so I knew there were two pieces per order. So we requested two orders since we were four. When it was delivered, I mentioned that we placed two orders. I was told that was two orders; all the restaurant did was cut the two pieces of bruschetta in a regular order in half. Not much of a happy hour special as it was $2 less for a half a piece instead of a whole slice on the dinner menu. The mushroom pizza was very good. Besides mushrooms it had truffled ricotta, roasted garlic and parmesan. The crust was very good. I had the pear salad and the octopus appetizer for dinner, and my husband had the rigatoni bolognese. My friends had the chicken piccata and the veal chop Milanese. My pear salad had watercress, endive, gorgonzola, shaved shallot, pears and dressed with a roasted pear vinaigrette. Bright and fresh. I enjoyed the octopus appetizer before on another visit so I knew what I was ordering, but was surprised that the octopus appetizer has changed, not in taste or ingredients, but it definitely was a smaller portion. Hmmm? My husband enjoyed the rigatoni Bolognese. I snagged a taste, and it was flavorful and robust. Both the chicken piccata and the veal chop were huge portions, and both my friends enjoy their dinner. Acanto is right across the street from the Art Institute so if you're ever in the area, I recommend it. Make sure to make reservations as it is a small restaurant and popular.
Came here for Chicago Restaurant Week 2024 and the CRW lunch menu was delicious and definitely worth trying out for $25. The burrata was creamy and paired well with the accompanying roasted beets and bright notes of citrus. The toast was a bit too hard for me but otherwise, the burrata was a great first course. The fritto misto was fantastic as well and the fried olives were a nice surprise (the person who decided to fry a castelvetrano olive is a genius). The second course options were good as well but let me continue on and highlight the panna cotta. OH MY. This dessert was 10/10 - I highly recommend trying this over the other dessert option (zuppa inglese). The panna cotta was creamy with a nice balance of rich chocolate-y goodness and crunchy bits and pieces of sponge cake. Definitely one of those dishes that elicit sounds of contentment. Overall, loved the cozy vibes of Acanto and the service was good as well. The spot is ideal as well if you're ever in the Loop area.
